We are pleased to announce TRACE’s Carly Farmer has been admitted to the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP) as a professional member! The professional membership is a testament to Carly’s extensive experience, working as an Intern Architect in the heritage field.
Carly’s interest in heritage buildings can be traced back to her initial passion for sustainable design—discovering that existing buildings have the biggest opportunity for impact.
Carly has worked on, and continues to contribute to many familiar buildings in Ottawa, such as the East Block of Parliament Rehabilitation and the Lester B. Pearson Building Rehabilitation. Her experience extends beyond the city’s limits and includes valuable heritage projects in Toronto (361 University-Interior Fit Up) and the Village of Russell Heritage Conservation District Study and Guidelines. Her knowledge and expertise as a heritage consultant continues to grow in leadership roles for various Heritage Reports, construction and sustainability initiatives.
Carly speaks highly of her time as a Site Resident for the East Block Rehabilitation project; “I learned so much from the trades people and other consultants and it was a real privilege to get to work alongside them to find solutions to the unexpected situations that arose day-to-day.” Heritage buildings tend to require more site work and research—challenges Carly is keen to take on. An added Bonus: climbing scaffolds on East Block came with the privilege of an office with the best views of our city!
While working her way to obtaining her CAHP professional membership status, Carly has attended multiple international conferences and traces much of her success to early career development; “make the connections, increase your knowledge and fuel your interest and passion for your vocation. Find the event(s) and people that relate to your interests.”
CAHP Professional members are admitted through a rigorous application process that outlines all heritage experience with supporting references. We are pleased to have a third CAHP professional member in our studio.
