Kingston’s new $801 Providence Care hospital to start construction immediately
EllisDon is part of a team creating a new $801 million state-of-the-art hospital for Kingston, set to begin construction immediately.
Infrastructure Ontario and Providence Care announced in Decemberthat Integrated Team Solutions had been awarded the contract to design, build, finance and maintain the new Providence Care Hospital.
Other consortium participants include Fengate Capital Management Ltd., Parkin Architects, Johnson Controls and financial advisor Scotia Capital.
The hospital is expected to be designed to LEED Silver standards and will combine services and programs from St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital and the mental health services site of Providence Care on a 30-acre waterfront site.
Initial design plans suggest the complex will include 270 patient rooms on four floors. Single patient rooms meeting current infection and control standards will be located with adjacent treatment and therapy spaces. The hospital also will have in-patient and outpatient clinics, as well as teaching and community areas.
The hospital has been designed with accessibility, adaptability, natural light and clear wayfinding.
The contract, factored at $901 million with inflation over the 30-year span, includes construction, maintenance, repair and renewal. Construction should be completed by the fall of 2016. More than 350 workers are expected to be on the site daily.
Providence Care is southeastern Ontario’s leading provider of aging, mental health and rehabilitative care and services. Affiliated with Queen’s University, it is a centre for health education and research, and a member of the Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario.
MTBA prepared the Heritage Character Statement for the Providence Care Hospital as part of EllisDon’s Site Plan Approval submission to the City of Kingston.
