Over our 30+ history TRACE has strategically grown to assemble a team of experienced people with interests in areas affecting existing buildings and sites both in our project work and larger outreach efforts.

Studio Lead, Architect
With over 15 years of experience Chris is studio lead and participates in our most significant projects and efforts. He is also co-author of Building Resilience and curator and creator of the Capital Modern online building resource.
Partner Emeritus, Senior Conservation Architect & Urbanist
Mark has over 35 years of experience in Architecture, Urban Design and Conservation and is considered a leader in Eastern Ontario/Western Québec in these fields. Besides leading collaborative teams for hundreds of projects in the National Capital Region, Mark has co-led many key organizations supporting these fields, including former Director of APT, Co-Founder of ZNCC Zero Net Carbon Collaboration for Existing & Historic Buildings, and many more. Brandt also spent much of the last two decades writing international journal articles and guest lecturing throughout North America, on the topics of the nexus of natural and cultural heritage, how building reuse is climate action, and the dire need for acceleration in decarbonizing our existing buildings and places.
Conservation Technologist, Heritage Specialist
Sabina has been working in the National Capital Region at small scale firms since 2012. Since joining TRACE Architectures in 2019, she has played key roles in some of our most notable federal and provincial heritage projects including East Block, Office of the Prime Minister & Privy Council, and Rockwood Academy.
Existing Buildings Specialist
Carly is a registered OAA Intern Architect and graduate of the B.A.S., M.Arch. and Create Heritage Engineering programs at Carleton. In her 5+ years at TRACE architectures, Carly has lead several projects, including the Grass Creek Park Pavilion, East Block (site resident) and Village of Russell Heritage Conservation District Study, Plan and Guidelines. As the firm’s Sustainability Lead, Carly investigates the connections between existing buildings and many dimensions of sustainability.
Research & Policy Lead
Emily has an extensive research background and heritage conservation background. Originally from Montreal, she completed her undergraduate studies at McGill, then moved to Newfoundland and Labrador for her Masters (History). Firmly planted in St. John’s for nearly a decade, she made the move back to the mainland in 2015 and has been working in the Heritage world ever since. Emily leads research and policy projects at TRACE architectures, in addition to proposals and Project Management.
Intern Architect, Existing Building Specialist
Originally from a small town in Alberta, Jason moved to Ottawa to study at Carleton University, where he completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in the History and Theory of Architecture and later completed his Master of Architecture graduate degree. These days, Jason is one of TRACE’s Existing Building Specialists with 5+ years in the Architecture and Construction Industry.
Controller
Originally from Great Britain, Rachel emigrated to Canada as a child. Worked for three years as Administrator for a 125-suite apartment complex in Pointe-Claire, QC. Worked for 23 years as General Manager for hotels in Rivière-du-Loup and Gatineau, QC and for two years as Regional Revenue Manager for 21 hotels throughout Québec. Joined TRACE architectures in 2018.
Project Manager, Existing Buildings Specialist
Catherine has 5 years of international experience in the heritage conservation field. Catherine’s role oscillates between Project Management for various firm projects and gaining experience as a registered OAA Intern Architect. She actively seeks opportunities to situate her work at the intersection of heritage and sociology. Originally from Québec City, Catherine has called Paris, Athens, and now Ottawa, home.
Architectural Intern
Angelica is from Haileybury, a small town in northern Ontario, and came to Ottawa in 2021 for school. She is fulfilling a CO-OP placement at TRACE, between the 3rd and 4th year of her undergraduate degree in Architectural Studies at Carleton University. Angelica has a history of community focused heritage work through library, museum, and art gallery experience, and spent the summer of 2024 working with the National Capital Commission architecture team.
Architectural Intern, Designer
Ben joined TRACE in 2023, following the completion of his undergraduate degree in Architectural Studies at Carleton University. He promptly returned to Carleton and is currently enrolled in the M.Arch program where he continues his studies. Ben is registered with the OAA as a Student Associate, and in his time at TRACE he has worked on several projects in a supporting role. Originally from southwestern Ontario, Ben has called Ottawa home since 2018.
