In partnership with the APT’s TC-SP Focus Group, and as a sponsor of OSCAR, the MTBA team invites you to take part in the first of the Concrete Content Development Forum Series which will take place June 11th, 2020 from 7-9pm ET via zoom. The Forum series presents an opportunity for experts and practitioners to discuss conservation best practices of pre- and post-war concrete structures and materials. This forum presents a good opportunity to discuss the preservation of modern buildings in preparation for our postponed “Revisiting Modern:Canadian Modern Architecture and its Stewardship” symposium. Due to the current situation and restrictive measures of Covid-19, the workshop is postponed to November 2020, health and safety restrictions willing.
The Content Development Series is an extension of MTBA’s continued role in APT’s OSCAR (Online Sustainable Conservation Assistance Resource) which will follow as part of the forum’s contribution to methodical approaches for the preservation of concrete. The online resource will provide visitors with information regarding preservation “actions” for assemblies and materials, including their current best-practices, concerns and environmental considerations. MTBA’s Intern Architect and Heritage Specialist, Carly Farmer, has been involved with the development of the OSCAR resource, as part of our firm’s philosophy and commitment to sustainability initiatives. More recently, Student Intern Catherine McBain will continue to contribute to the OSCAR platform developing “action cards” following each of the OSCAR’s Concrete Content Development Forums. These “action cards” mark the initial stage of publishing the OSCAR resource, a tool with the potential to be a leading platform in the field of architectural conservation.
