Exploring Architecture, Urbanism and Conservation
I am passionate about the impact of architecture on community, and the ability of architecture to help foster sustainable communities, both socially and environmentally. Through well informed design solutions that work with and within their context, architecture can create a positive, accessible, and equitable user experience. I especially appreciate the intersection between design and heritage as an approach to sustainability and as a unique design challenge.
Interest
Detailing Heritage
During my education and through my time at TRACE I have developed an interest in the technical construction and assembly of buildings, both old and new. The notion that through investigation and understanding of original design intent of existing buildings we can provide creative and sustainable design solutions is something that is of great interest to me. Having the opportunity to understand heritage buildings on a technical level has given me a greater appreciation for the buildings around the National Capital Region!
Interest
Beyond TRACE
Outside of the office, I like to sew and make clothes out of thrifted and second-hand materials. Creating something at a human scale offers its own unique challenges!
I was also involved on a team at Carleton University for a design-build project of an accessible community garden and gathering space for a community in Overbrook, Ottawa. My role on the project was largely the design of individual components that were accessible, aesthetically consistent, and cost effective. My interest in the cross between design and sustainability extends well beyond architecture!
