Heritage Ottawa Walking Tour – Chaudière Islands Heritage District: From Indigenous To Industrial

October 6, 2:00 PM – MEET: former Bronson Co. Office (historicplaces.ca), 150 Middle Street, east off of Booth Street on Victoria Island.

The area around the Chaudière Falls has been the core of our Region’s economic life from aboriginal times until the present: the eighteenth, nineteenth, and early twentieth century industrial interventions are a microcosm of the development of Canada’s water and forest resources. This walk will look at sites of these indigenous and industrial cultures throughout the Islands as well as the Falls, and illustrate the potential for heritage-sensitive sustainable re-imagination of, and cultural events within, this district.

GUIDE: Mark Thompson Brandt, Conservation Architect and Urbanist, designer/author of the Chaudière District Master Plan for the NCC, is the leading authority on this historically significant ‘National Treasure’ cultural landscape below Parliament Hill.
